Afternoons delight

written on January 28 2016

Step by step the shelter of midday
Enters, thoughts tuning
to the hours’ spirit.

A warm brush of greeting
Fans my face in delight,
Leaving a kiss of sunlight,
over a fleecy embrace.

Shaken, stirred, shrouded –
memory stretched out
a sparkling web
between ceiling and floor,
tile and cream floss…

dimly as though through
the reach of distant haze
a ripe and pendulous, rose bobbing
freely in the afternoon breeze.

And reaching out, what remained
– one by one – each petal
pressed softly between
Pages of radiance and fervor.
